What's Wrong With (Some Of) Our People?

Mark Steyn interviewed by Hugh Hewitt on the latest Democratic crack-up over Gitmo courtesy of Dick Durbin: I think the politics of it is disastrous for the Democratic Party, because every time they stand up and they whine that some poor, little jihadist is having to have Christina Aguilera played to him really loudly, which, to be honest, I wouldn't want. But every time the Democrats stand up for the cause of that, they identify themselves, in crude political terms, as the weak party, the spineless party, the supine party, and that didn't work for them in 2002 and 2004. And there's no reason to expect that to change next year. Intelligence gathering is messy business and to believe that information can be extracted from hardened jihadists without it getting a bit messy is simply childish and ignorant. What is closer to treasonous (yes, I admit indulging in a bit of hyperbole here) is to liken our military to Stalin, Pol Pot and the Nazis...especially when it comes from the #2 Democrat in Congress and will be used as negative PR by our enemies.
