Ethical Question...

On December 13, 2005 the founder of the gang "the Crips" is to be executed. Now a nun I know and used to work with is trying to get him clemency along with a lot of other famous people. [They are against the death penalty.] Not that he would be freed just not killed. So the question is...Does any "good work" you do on the inside in prison go towards a credit to earn your right to live back? Is there any situation where we should do this? He has written books and told people about the dangers of gangs. He actually has a huge fan base, but should that make any difference? Is having him around living in prison more of a benefit we should acknowledge...by our governor of California giving him clemency? Is this our ultimate act as a society to show mercy and forgiveness? Do we have any obligation to do this?
